About Me
@yeekaychan

I am an urban planner, researcher and photographer. I strongly believe in urban equity for all and am an advocate of affordable housing, safe transportation, and resilient infrastructure. I am currently located in Sacramento, California and am a Project Analyst for the California Department of Housing & Community Development.

I am a first generation immigrant and the daughter of a refugee with family ties to the Kowloon Walled City. Before urban planning, I began my career in the legal sector working in immigration and refugee asylum policy.

Other bits.

I believe in the power of labor and am currently a member of California’s largest union, SEIU Local 1000. I was previously a member of New York City’s largest public service sector union, DC37 from 2018-2021. I hold a Certificate in Labor Studies from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

I am the co-founder of @plantsforthepeopleBK, a mutual aid group that provides free gardening supplies, plants, and nature classes to the Brooklyn community.

I occasionally lead educational bird walks. My goal for 2024 is to reach a record of documenting 600 species of birds.

I am a fan of #BikeNYC. I love watching Hong Kong and Taiwanese films. I’m usually reading books on anthropology, philosophy, labor history, linguistics, and fiction… You can find what I’m reading on my Goodreads.

I’m into learning languages and speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish. I am on-and-off currently learning German, Georgian, Russian, and Portuguese. I have previously studied Korean, Arabic MSA, Turkish, and Uyghur.
